The symposium hosted by Helix Human Services was called “Rise Up: A Journey to Trauma Recovery.” Helix Human Services which was previously known as The Children`s Study Home, brought the community and professional health experts together to discuss the many different ways to recover from trauma including neglect, abuse, discrimination, and violence.

According to the nonprofit organization, these are all issues that can lead to not only health issues but risky behavior, and their goal is to help the community navigate through them.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the organization found that there have not been enough training and professional development events in the area to help families.

Social workers, educators, emergency department officials, advocates for mental health, and the community were a part of the conference. All of the guests were taught practical evidence-based strategies to create supportive environments for children and their families that are at risk.

They also got to focus on topics including developmental trauma, ABA Therapy, sensory Integration Trauma-informed care, and poverty.
