GEN Korean BBQ made its debut in Kahului over the weekend, but the grand opening celebration was short-lived.

An unknown suspect was caught on video smashing their windows the very next morning. According to the district manager, this is the third time in September the restaurant was targeted.

This event has a new twist on ‘pigging out’

“It was a great event. A lot of people came out and turned up. But five o’clock in the morning, I came to the restaurant with nine broken windows,” explained Conan Paik-Rosa, GEN Korean BBQ District Manager of Hawaii.

He added that the suspect did not steal anything.

According to Paik-Rosa, the restaurant saw its first vandalism attempt on Sept. 12 while it was under construction.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. when a man in a hoodie broke the window and ran off to a separate parking lot area.

After Sunday’s incident, Paik-Rosa said they are looking at spending more than $20,000 on extra cameras, security and more.

As of now, nearby businesses do not appear to have been targeted.
