EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The New Mexico State University (NMSU) Police Department is investigating a reported sexual assault that happened in late September at Piñon Hall on the Las Cruces campus.

NMSU Police said a student who resides at the residence hall reported being sexually assaulted at a party sometime just before midnight on Saturday, Sept. 28, and 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29.

The suspect has not been identified but is described as a 5-foot-7 Black male in his late teens or early 20s, according to NMSU Police.

“As this remains to be an ongoing criminal investigation, and we want to ensure the integrity of the investigation; we are limited on releasing anything additional at this time. We will be coordinating with MARCOMM and as soon as we can, we will provide additional information. Our commitment remains in safeguarding our campus community,” read a statement provided by NMSU Police.

NMSU police are actively searching for the suspect and ask anyone who may have information about this incident to call the NMSU Police Department at (575) 646-3311.
