A recent tragic bus accident near Bangkok has highlighted Thailand’s concerning road safety record. The incident, which resulted in 23 fatalities and 16 injuries, underscores the urgent need for comprehensive reforms in the nation’s road safety measures.

The bus was transporting 44 students from Wat Phraya Sangkharam School in central Uthai Thani Province to Ayutthaya for a school trip. Including the driver and a bus attendant, there were 46 people on board.

The students on the bus spanned from 6 to 15 years old, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 9. Initial reports indicated 23 fatalities, including 20 students and 3 teachers. The forensic team’s investigation revealed that the vehicle had an Isuzu truck body but displayed Mercedes-Benz logos on the front and rear.
