It’s now October and the pumpkin season is in full swing.

SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s now October and the pumpkin season is in full swing.

Where can you pick your own pumpkins in western Massachusetts?

The drier weather we’ve been having this summer and fall has made for some good pumpkins this season. At Calabrese Farms in Southwick, there are plenty of pumpkins available.

Owner Joe Calabrese tells 22News fewer rainfall has made it a good year for pumpkins.

“The pumpkins sized up nice, there’s not a disease in them like the past couple years…,” Calabrese noted. “The pumpkins are a really good quality this year and beautiful color, nice stems on them and plenty of them this year.”

22News’ own SkyView22 flew over the Calabrese pumpkin patch Wednesday and saw plenty of pumpkins left to pick from. Experts say pumpkins that are bright orange and have a dark green stem will last longer.

The pumpkin season will run until the end of October with a number of varieties to choose from.

Joe Calabrese says because there are so many pumpkins available this year, customers will pay less for them than in previous years.
