CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Nearly 40 people have died after Hurricane Helene plowed through South Carolina last week.

Heather Biance with the state Department of Public Safety said 39 people are confirmed to have suffered weather-related deaths following Helene.

The numbers come from the coroner office in each county the deaths occurred.

Aiken: 6

Anderson: 4

Chester: 2

Chesterfield: 1

Greenville: 6

Greenwood: 1

Laurens: 3

Newberry: 3

Richland: 1

Saluda: 3

Spartanburg: 8 

York: 1

Communities across the southeast have rallied to help those affected by the destructive storm. Rescues are performed daily, while supply drives have been organized across the Carolinas.

News 2 has also organized a drive to bring relief to those impacted. People willing to donate can drop off items at News 2 (210 W. Coleman Boulevard) between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
