The Springfield Thunderbirds and the NHL St. Louis Blues have agreed to extend their affiliation for another 7 years.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – The Springfield Thunderbirds and the NHL St. Louis Blues have agreed to extend their affiliation for another 7 years.

The T-birds, who are part of the American League, are affiliated with the NHL St. Louis Blue meaning the NHL team can call up players and coaches to join their team when needed.

Back in 2020, the T-birds announced a five-year affiliation with the Blues and as the deal was coming to a close, both teams decided to resign.

“There has been some uncertainty across the American League over the last few years when it comes to affiliations so for us, it was really important to lock in a long-term deal with St. Louis and they wanted the same thing. They’ve seen the value in working with us and partners and the city” said Springfield Thunderbirds president, Nathan Costa.

The Thunderbirds haven’t only helped out their coaches and players with the renewed affiliation, but this partnership will also continue to created a positive impact on the local economy.

Between their partnerships and sold-out games, last year the T-birds had a 127 million dollar impact on the local economy… this year, they are already projected to be over 200 million dollars.

The Thunderbirds have another preseason game tonight before their regular season kicks off next Saturday… and as a reminder, as the Bruce Landon parking garage is under construction, fans can park for free at the MGM Springfield garage.
