A Springfield resident thanked an officer for helping clear an overgrown traffic island, causing a hazard to drivers.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Springfield resident thanked an officer for helping clear an overgrown traffic island, causing a hazard to drivers.

After several attempts to get the problem resolved at the intersection of Parker Street and Wilbraham Road, the Sixteen Acres resident contacted Springfield Police Ordinance Officer Jason Laviolette. He was able to get the area cleared and remove the obstruction to provide a safe travel experience.

Springfield Police Superintendent Akers received a letter from the resident recognizing the public service of the officer. “It is a nice feeling to know, I called him, he listened, he cared, he executed, and the problem was resolved.  He (Officer Laviolette) takes pride wearing his badge and doing his job.  He is respectful and pleasant to speak to. He is an asset to the SPD. You should be proud of this officer!”

Superintendent Akers thanks the resident for bringing the positivity to his attention, “Our Ordinance Unit wears a lot of different hats dealing with quality-of-life issues around the city.  I would like to thank this resident for not only bringing Officer Laviolette’s actions to my attention, but also taking the time to bring this problem to our attention.  Thousands of cars drive by this intersection every day and likely don’t pay it much attention, until something bad happens.  I’m glad we got this area cleaned up to possibly prevent a future crash.  Thank you to Officer Laviolette for taking immediate action on this issue and compelling a resident to write a letter about your service.  Every interaction with the public makes a difference and want all our officers serving our community in the same manner that they bravely protect our community.”
