A backdoor front will bring a slight cool down Friday, before warming up again this weekend. Weather looks great, but warm, for the first weekend of Balloon Fiesta!

More record and near-record warmth returned to northern, western, and central New Mexico Thursday afternoon with highs as much as 10° to 15° warmer than normal for the beginning of October. A weak cold front is moving through northeast New Mexico. This front will push trough the East Canyon into Albuquerque tonight, with east wind gusts up to 45 mph. These winds will die down by the time many are heading out the door Friday morning. It will only leave temperatures a couple degrees cooler Friday afternoon across the state.

Weather for the first weekend of Balloon Fiesta should be nice! The mornings will only be in the mid and upper 50s with light winds out at Balloon Fiesta Park. Sunday afternoon, the winds might get a little breezy as a backdoor cold front moves through, but should die down for the evening events at Balloon Fiesta Park. Expecting a green flag both Saturday and Sunday morning, so all balloon should take off this weekend!

Temperatures will be a few degrees cooler next week, but still as much as 5° to 10° warmer than normal for this time of year. Winds also look to remain light each morning through the first half of the week for Fiesta. A few spotty mountain rain chances may return to the northern half of New Mexico late next week, but most areas will stay dry.
