At 8:10 AM on October 5th, 2024, Huamark police officers received a report of a taxi accident on Rama 9 Road, Bangkok, where the vehicle overturned and caught fire. The crash left five passengers injured, including one in critical condition.
Firefighters arrived to find the overturned taxi engulfed in flames in the middle of the road. The five passengers had managed to escape the burning vehicle, with one critically injured person receiving first aid before being rushed to Samitivej Hospital’s ICU.
Among the injured was a child, who suffered minor injuries but was visibly shaken, according to the officers.
One of the passengers, a woman, heroically kicked open the door from inside the taxi and helped free herself and the other passengers, including the child, according to the police.
Local authorities temporarily closed the affected lanes to remove the vehicle and clean the road of debris. Initial investigations suggest a gas tank explosion did not cause the fire, but the vehicle will be inspected further to determine the cause.
