NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man was fatally shot following a police chase after he reportedly carjacked a rideshare driver at gunpoint in downtown Nashville.

Just after 9 p.m. Friday, Metro police were dispatched to Rosa Parks Boulevard and Broadway, where a rideshare passenger reported that a man stole his Uber driver’s vehicle.

The two men recounted the incident to officers on the scene, as seen in body camera footage shared by the Metro Nashville Police Department.

26-year-old Adam Rodriguez and a woman, who is believed to be his girlfriend, were driving a white Kia Soul when they reportedly rear-ended the Uber driver’s Honda Odyssey.

Rodriguez approached the Honda with a gun and ordered the rideshare driver and passenger out of the vehicle. He and his girlfriend then got in the van and drove away, officials said.

A bullet hole seen in the windshield of the Kia is believed to have been fired from inside the vehicle just before the crash. The exact time and location where the shot was fired remains under investigation.

A short time later, officers located the van driving in North Nashville and deployed a spike strip, flattening at least one of the tires. Rodriguez continued to drive down 10th Avenue North before exiting the van and fleeing on foot.

Body camera footage shows Officer Pierce Moore getting out of his patrol vehicle and chasing Rodriguez to the porch of a nearby house. Rodriguez was repeatedly ordered to drop the pistol in his hand by Moore.

Rodriguez did not comply and the officer fired multiple shots, fatally wounding him.

Rodriguez received medical aid at the scene and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died.

Moore, who joined the police department in May 2023, is on routine administrative assignment while the shooting is investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and MNPD.
