A Saturday night shooting at Smith Springs Park fatally injured a 15-year-old girl, authorities said.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Saturday night shooting at Smith Springs Park fatally injured a 15-year-old girl, authorities said.

The Metro Nashville Police Department identified the victim as Genesis Sarahi Medina Gonzales.

According to officials, the male who drove her to the hospital said she asked him earlier in the day to pick her up from the park Saturday night. When the driver arrived, he reportedly saw Gonzales with two males and a female.

MNPD said the driver stepped out of his vehicle to greet Gonzales, and as they were walking back to the car, he heard gunshots. He told officers he saw three people running away from the scene.

Gonzales reportedly told him she had been shot and he drove her to a nearby hospital. Officials said she suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.

The driver initially brought her to Southern Hills Medical Center, but police said she was later transported to Vanderbilt Pediatrics, where she died.

According to authorities, not only does Gonzales have a runaway history in Nashville, but she was recently reported as a runaway out of Arkansas by her mother.
