On October 6th, 2024, the Smart Water Operation Center (SWOC) of the Royal Irrigation Department reported heavy rainfall in the upper Chao Phraya River Basin, particularly in the Yom and Nan River areas. This has led to increased water flow into the lower basin.

The Royal Irrigation Department is managing the water flow by storing as much as possible in reservoirs in the upper regions, while in the central areas, excess water is being retained in natural water retention areas.
As of 6:00 AM on October 6th, the water flow at Station C.2 in Nakhon Sawan province is measured at 2,383 cubic meters per second and rising. This water will combine with flow from the Sakae Krang River and continue downstream to the Chao Phraya Dam.

The department is regulating water discharge at the Chao Phraya Dam in Chai Nat province to maintain a flow rate of no more than 2,400 cubic meters per second. Residents in low-lying areas outside flood embankments in Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Sing Buri, and Chai Nat are advised to monitor water levels closely.
At Station Bang Sai in Ayutthaya, the water flow is averaging 1,865 cubic meters per second. While this does not currently affect Bangkok and its surrounding areas, residents in riverside communities and low-lying areas are warned of possible impacts during high tides.

Thai authorities implemented measures to reduce potential damage by draining water from canals and coordinating with local governments to manage water levels and minimize the impact on communities and key economic areas.
For assistance, residents can contact their local irrigation office or the Royal Irrigation Department’s hotline at 1460.
