Members of the team said getting on the ice in the AHL preseason and coming home to so much support from the community is all part of the effort to prepare.

Last season, fans got to enjoy the best run in team history. It ended with a loss to the Florida Everblades in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. For the dedicated Thunder crowds, it’s unfinished business.

“The fans are really excited to come back. You know, it’s been a long summer for them without hockey,” said Team President Jeff Mead.

“Being able to get to know some of the kids and families and their stories, and just interacting with them,” said Defenseman Ryan Wheeler, “it’s awesome and it makes the game really fun.”

Some of the team had the chance to play in the short preseason for the AHL as part of the Utica Comets’ lineup in their game against Syracuse Crunch.

It was great for the guys. We got a chance to work with their player development staff,” said Head Coach Pete MacArthur. “It’s really important to be able to know what’s coming at such a quick pace at the next level, so for our guys to have that extra week to kind of gel and get their legs under them, I think it was invaluable and a really good experience.”

Training camp is open to all fans, free of charge, as the Thunder prepare for two preseason games.
