In Thailand, more than 7 million rai of land, mostly in hilly, steep regions, is dedicated to maize farming, with 95% of this maize used to feed livestock in the meat industry. The widespread practice of burning crop residues after harvest is a significant contributor to the PM2.5 air pollution, directly affecting the health of Thai citizens.

While many recognise its role in the PM2.5 pollution crisis, fewer understand the industry’s broader impact — deforestation, biodiversity loss, habitat destruction, and climate change.
