“Think long and hard about your actions because it may be fun for you. You really devastated our entire community.”

KAILUA, Hawaii (KHON2) — Halloween is three weeks away. For some, it’s not just about dressing up in costume. Some decorate their homes to get in the spooky spirit. For one Kailua family, the Halloween spirit was snatched by thieves in the night.

The Loveland home in Kailua is well known for its festive holiday decorations. They decorate every year for Halloween and Christmas and the community looks forward to it every single year.

“It’s something that livens up this corner, which is busy. There’s a lot of kids that go to that park, so it’s fun for everyone around,” said neighbor Brok Kellogg.

Fa-BOO-lous ways to spend your Halloween

Loveland said they just put up their Halloween decorations on Sunday when thieves hit them early Wednesday morning. The entire incident was caught on camera.

“It was a matter of seconds, there was a whole bunch of them. Pretty much what they took, they probably ruined and they didn’t just steal it to steal it. They stole to have fun. That’s what makes it worse. Just no class,” explained Momi Loveland.

Neighbors said it’s unsettling for a neighborhood that does not have a lot going on.

“When it happens literally across the street, it gives me a little pause,” Kellogg added.

The Lovelands have been decorating for more than a decade, collecting decorations throughout the years. Some of the items that were destroyed and taken are simply irreplaceable.

Momi is a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan. According to her, some of those decorations cannot be found anymore.

She added it’s not about the money, just the principle of the matter.

“No amount of money can replace my spirit and it’s broken.”

This isn’t the first time thieves stole the Halloween spirit. A Nanakuli family was targeted last year.

Momi said after this incident, she will not be decorating her home for Christmas. She shared the following message for the Halloween snatchers.

“Think long and hard about your actions because it may be fun for you. You really devastated our entire community.”

Anyone with any information about the crime is asked to contact police.
