NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After a weekend of summer-like weather, a powerful cold front will swing through and bring a huge drop in temperatures for the upcoming week.

Normally when a cold front swings through Middle Tennessee we would focus on a risk of thunderstorms, but with extremely dry air in place, there will be no rain along the front. Instead, it will only bring a big swing in temperatures.

Afternoon highs will drastically change over the next few days. High temperatures will go from the 80s on Sunday to the 60s on Monday. Temperatures will continue to drop through Wednesday. By Wednesday some places won’t even get out of the 50s!

In the mornings we will see widespread temperatures in the 30s, meaning frost will be likely. This will be the first time Nashville temperatures drop to the 30s since April 22nd.

However, this shift is right on schedule. Nashville typically sees its first morning in the 30s on Oct. 16, which happens to be this Wednesday. We are forecasting a low of 39 degrees in Nashville on Wednesday morning.

Areas away from the city will be even cooler. Many locations, especially on the plateau, will drop near or below freezing.

Even with a freeze possible, the National Weather Service will not be issuing frost or freeze advisories because the growing season is over.

These temperatures will feel cold since it’s been about seven months since we have experienced temperatures this low. Get those thick coats out of storage because you are going to need them this week!
