The Basketball Hall of Fame’s Enshrinement Ceremony brings national attention to Springfield each year.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Basketball Hall of Fame’s Enshrinement Ceremony brings national attention to Springfield each year.

Springfield, the birthplace of basketball, attracts fans from all over. Some fans standing outside for hours to see of some of basketballs biggest stars as they made their way down the red carpet into the enshrinement ceremony Sunday evening.

A family from Virginia visiting the Basketball Hall of Fame on Sunday had no idea they were just a mile away from the enshrinement ceremony. They later drove down to catch a glimpse.

“I saw Vince Carter, he actually used our umbrella,” shared Ryan Block.

“They had no umbrella so the handler asked if he could borrow our umbrella both for Vince Carter and Chauncey Billups,” Kelli Block told 22News.

One local fan got his hands on a one-of-a-kind souvenir.

“I met a bunch of players, and got seven signatures on my ball like Ben Wallace, like Gary Blair, a lot of coaches,” said Chad Yacovone.

Other fans lined up outside of the enshrinement ceremony to see the legends that inspire them.

“It’s very encouraging because I know everybody including the athletes go through difficult times in life and they overcome,” shared David Lear.

No set date has been announced for the 2025 Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend, but you can look forward to the class of 2025 group of inductees is set to be announced in April at the NCAA Division 1 Final Four in San Antonio.
