CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – MassDOT issued a travel advisory for Columbus Day reminding those traveling to expect a higher number of vehicles on the road.

What’s closed on Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day?

Anyone planning to take a trip is encouraged to travel at off-peak hours and utilize maps and GPS to make informed decisions. 22News caught up with a traveler Monday, who said Monday morning traffic was moving steadily, and leaving early was key.

“I’d say it’s pretty good. We try to avoid all the traffic so we leave as early as possible. Just so we have extra time. I’d say drive safe, because it’s pretty foggy in one area of the highway, but other than that, it should be okay,” said Jenny from Albany, New York.

MassDOT also reminds the public that Commonwealth of Massachusetts offices, including the RMV, are closed for the holiday.
