22News is working for you with how to check your home heating unit.
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Cooler temperatures this week mean it’s time to crank the heat.
There’s the potential for freezing overnights in certain areas of western Massachusetts, so it’s time to run through your checklist.
Make sure to change your heating filter if the last change was longer than 3 to 6 months ago
Have your oil refilled before winter
The #1 mistake people make when it comes to home heating
“I would say, know how to start your heating system before you’re actually ready to use it. This way if there is something wrong with it you can get somebody out there sooner rather than later,” said service manager Tim Carriveau at Berkshire Heating & Air Conditioning.
You’ll also want to seal any large gaps in your home, starting with your doors and windows. This will also help save on your heating bill by as much as 25%. You can purchase these products at your local hardware store but do it before we get into the winter season.
