ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian. APD says the crash happened overnight near Central and San Mateo.


Rare comet can be seen in New Mexico sky, local experts explain

Police say a man in a wheelchair was crossing Central when he was struck by a green Lexus sedan. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Albuquerque Fire Rescue. Police interviewed the driver who said he did not see pedestrian until he was about ten feet away. The driver said he attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the pedestrian, but was unable to do so in time.

The pedestrian has not been identified. Police say speed or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash and pedestrian error is the primary contributing factor. The investigation is ongoing.
