Bangkok-based petrol station operator PTG Energy plans to significantly scale its PunThai Coffee footprint, adding more than 250 stores by the end of this year ahead of 1,000 new sites in 2025.

Bangkok-based petrol station operator PTG Energy plans to significantly scale its PunThai Coffee footprint, adding more than 250 stores by the end of this year ahead of 1,000 new sites in 2025.
PTG Energy currently operates 1,020 PunThai Coffee outlets across Thailand – nearly 60% of which are located within or alongside its 2,250 petrol station network.
The business plans to reach 1,300 PunThai Coffee stores by the end of 2024 – which would see it achieve its goal of opening 400 new coffee shops this year.
In May 2024, PTG Energy announced an ambitious goal to reach 5,000 coffee shops by 2027.
The planned outlet growth comes as part of wider PTG Energy plans to invest THB 6bn ($180.7m) in expanding and upgrading its petrol station networks. The company expects to add 60 new petrol stations and renovate 100 further sites in 2025.
In a bid to strengthen its coffee supply chain and meet increased demand across its PunThai Coffee outlets, PTG Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thailand’s Royal Forest Department, Mae Fah Luang Foundation and the state-run Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC).
The MoU seeks to support coffee farmers from hilltribe ethnic groups in northern Thailand by developing suitable forest areas for coffee production, sharing best practices on planting processes, raising quality and improving traceability.
PTG Energy expects PunThai Coffee sales to increase by 30% this year to 120 cups of coffee daily per store, up from 90 cups daily per store in 2023.
PunThai is the third largest branded coffee chain in Thailand, behind 4,500-store Café Amazon and 1,000-site Inthanin – both of which are also owned by Thai petrol station operators.
Further highlighting opportunities with Thailand’s sizeable petrol station retail market, petrol station operator Caltex announced plans in October 2024 to expand its concession partnership with Thai coffee chain Chao Doi. Caltex currently operates 38 Chao Doi coffee shops across its 530-site petrol station network and is seeking to scale the partnership to 200 petrol stations over the next five years.
