Russell Sage College officially welcomed its new president on Wednesday.
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Russell Sage College officially welcomed its new president on Wednesday. The college hosted an inauguration ceremony for Dr. Matthew Shaftel.
Dr. Shaftel began his tenure in July after the retirement of the previous president, Christopher Ames. As he settles into his new role, the president said the ceremony was about the college and not him.
“Our faculty, staff and students deserve a moment to reflect on all the things that have happened over the last 108 years and to think about how do we lay the course for the future,” he said.
The college is also celebrating the creation of a new fund. A former student and trustee donated $10 million to the Sage Forward Fund with the goal of setting up the college for long-term stability.
