Caught on camera: an unwelcome guest in the foothills.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Caught on camera: an unwelcome guest in the foothills. However, this wasn’t a suspect police were looking for – it was a mountain lion taking a stroll a little too close for comfort. Police body camera footage shows how officers got that big cat out of the neighborhood.

“It was in this tree here,” asked an Albuquerque police officer.
“Uh huh, in that horizontal branch,” responded a nearby neighbor.

Albuquerque police responded to a neighborhood near Tramway and Spain on August 24, but it wasn’t because of a crime. Neighbors told officers a mountain lion was sitting in a tree, taking in the views.

After searching for the large feline, APD officers alongside Game & Fish, found the mountain lion near a tunnel and tranquilized it.

“Is it one of those things like going to stay asleep for a bit,” asked one APD officer.
“Yeah, you don’t have to worry about it for a little bit,” responded a Game and Fish officer.

The video shows multiple officers carrying the big cat down the trail. When they got back to the neighborhood to put the mountain lion in a trailer to relocate it, neighbors were happy to see the cougar was in good hands.

According to APD, Game and Fish tagged and relocated the mountain lion somewhere in the Manzano Mountains.
