The 3rd annual Magic for Maddie Fun Walk & Carnival took place in Holyoke Saturday.

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The 3rd annual Magic for Maddie Fun Walk & Carnival took place in Holyoke Saturday afternoon.

Eight-year-old Maddie Schmitd passed away back in 2022 following a 10-month battle with a rare form of pediatric brain cancer.

“After Maddie gained her angel wings we decided to turn our pain into purpose and be better not bitter” says Nora Schmitd, Maddie’s mother.

Gary Rome from Gary Rome Hyundai donated a $25,000 check to the Magic for Maddie non-profit. He also matched donations up to $25,000.

Mass Appeal’s Patrick Berry also emceed the race, as hundreds gathered to run a 5K or walk two miles. Attendees enjoyed a carnival following the fun walk with cookie decorating, music and entertainment.

Gary Rome Hyundai also placed Maddie’s handprint on one of their Hyundai’s which serves as a symbol for children fighting cancer or who’ve lost their battle too soo.
