HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Bear hunting season in counties across the Grand Strand and Pee Dee will end for the year on Monday after the region hit its quota for the season, state wildlife officials said.
The closure impacts private land in Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion and Williamsburg counties as well the following wildlife management areas:
Cartwheel Bay Heritage Preserve
Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve
Little Pee Dee River Heritage Preserve
Waccamaw River Heritage Preserve
Wee Tee Wildlife Management Area
Officials said anyone hunting in the areas after the official closure time may be charged with hunting bears during a closed season. State law allows 30 bears to be harvested across all counties through Oct. 30 or until the quota is met.
All other bear hunting zones in the state remain open.
