On the spookiest day of the year you’ll need a costume and a bag of candy, but the cost to keep up with the hocus pocus is rising.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On the spookiest day of the year you’ll need a costume and a bag of candy, but the cost to keep up with the hocus pocus is rising.

The average American spends about $100 on Halloween each year including candy, decorations and costumes.

“I’m looking for Art the Clown costume from Terrifier 3. They’re a lot cheaper here then everywhere else,” shared Maxwell Bradnt.

Though Halloween is the one night you can be anything you want, even if there’s a price on it.

“It’s definitely definitely worth to spend the money on your costume. I’m going with the gangsters,” Justin Disnmore-Olsen told 22News.

Some Baystaters fear how much you have to budget for this one spooky night.

“I feel like it’s a lot for just one night…one costume is 50 bucks, I also have to get one for my son. That’s another 50 bucks…plus accessories,” shared Meylene Rivera.

Spending this Halloween season can be a fright, but the magic of the night is what you make of it. Homemade costumes, DIY decor and limiting your candy pour could save you from a nightmare.

On top of costumes, Americans are spending a chunk of their money on bags of candy. A variety assortment with 95 pieces of candy right now at Walmart is $10.
