A motorcyclist died after a crash on Interstate 24 West between the Old Hickory Boulevard and Joelton exits early Sunday morning, according to Nashville authorities.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A motorcyclist died after a crash on Interstate 24 West between the Old Hickory Boulevard and Joelton exits early Sunday morning, according to Nashville authorities.

The Metro Nashville Police Department said the incident took place around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Witnesses and motorists told law enforcement the motorcyclist passed them at an estimated speed of more than 100 mph. Shortly afterward, they saw he had crashed.

Officials said it appears that the rider lost control of the motorcycle after he entered a curve in the roadway. He died at the scene.

According to police, the motorcyclist was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash. In addition, authorities didn’t find any signs of impairment at the scene.

The motorcyclist has been tentatively identified as a 24-year-old man from Fort Campbell, but the medical examiner will work to confirm his identity and notify his next of kin, law enforcement reported.
