The Albany Police Athletic League’s holiday lights show will not be held this year.

ALTAMONT, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Albany Police Athletic League’s holiday lights show will not be held this year. The show was supposed to come to the Altamont Fairgrounds after a virtual show in 2023.

It was held in Albany’s Washington Park for 25 years, but it was discontinued two years ago because of traffic concerns. It has served as an important fundraiser for the police athletic league and their youth programs.

“PAL is still exploring opportunities to host our lights show that the Capital Region has cherished for over 25 years. But until that opportunity presents itself, we continue to find ways to support our programming and PAL Kids through partnerships with other organizations who use our displays for their events,” PAL Exec. Dir. Sgt. (Ret.) Leonard Ricchiuti said in a statement. “One such example is the winter show in Lake George Village. Our ultimate goal is to support our kids, and if that means putting our light show on pause while we explore other avenues of support, then that’s what we’ll do.”

However, there will be a holiday lights display at the Altamont Fairgrounds this year. Fair organizers partnered with an Illinois-based company to bring a drive-thru display called Magic of Lights. It runs seven days a week from Nov. 22 through Jan. 4.
