Judge Beverly Cannone is set to preside again over January’s Karen Read murder retrial.

BOSTON (WWLP) – Judge Beverly Cannone is set to preside again over January’s Karen Read murder retrial.

House passes closeout budget bill

Judge Cannone oversaw Read’s first murder trial for the death of her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe. It ended in a mistrial when the jury couldn’t come to a verdict.

There was some questioning on social media since Judge Cannone will rotate out of the Regional Administrative Justice position in 2025. However, a trial court spokesperson said she will continue to serve Norfolk County and she will preside over Read’s case.

Read was charged with murder in the death of her boyfriend in January of 2022. O’Keefe was found outside the Canton home of Brian Albert, another Boston police officer. Prosecutors argued that Read hit him with her SUV and left him for dead, while the defense claimed she was framed in a wide-ranging coverup.
