LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — This week marks National School Bus Safety Week.

Kentucky State Police posted to their Facebook saying around 25 million students across the country start and end their day on a school bus.

This week is dedicated to helping keep other drivers educated on school bus safety laws on the road.

Part of that safety is knowing when and where to stop when you see a school bus letting students on or off the bus.

For two-lane roadways, when you see a bus stop and extend its stop sign, both lanes going both directions must stop.

For four lane roadways, only the traffic following the bus must stop.

KSP urges people to follow all of these laws to keep our students safe when they’re headed to and from school.
