According to the shelter’s CEO Sheryl Blancato, the small breed dogs all under four years old including a mix of Maltese, Poodle, Yorkie, and Shih Tzu were retrieved from an overwhelmed owner, “He surrendered most of his dogs to us and kept a couple and the animal control officers are with him to get them fixed, but it just got out of control and he needed help.”

The once-neglected dogs, received the medical attention they needed thanks to the support of the community, including being spayed or neutered. “We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from our community,” said Lindsay Doray, Chief Development Officer of Second Chance. “Because of your generosity, the original group of dogs are settling into new homes. Your donations made this possible, and we truly can’t thank you enough.”

In addition to the 23 dogs rescued, the animal shelter has taken in four more dogs from the same case. A timid dachshund mix, 8-year-old Esmeralda, requires surgery to repair a large hernia, heartworm treatment, and a dental procedure. The non-profit organization expects the costs to total nearly $2,500.
