This event is part of the MassMakes initiative, and connected students to careers in manufacturing by offering STEM-related challenges and opportunities. Students came from Innovation Career Pathways programs across the state to learn about an abundance of innovations.

This event is part of the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s Mass STEM Week, which highlights the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math education and careers. This year’s theme is “STEM starts now”, emphasizing that you can learn about STEM at any age.

Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll tells 22News why events like this are so important for the next generation of learners.

“I mean you’ll see a lot of excited high school students here who have been working on projects throughout the year and this is an opportunity to really bring it together, put a challenge out to them, and really see the creativity, and it’s an opportunity to really support this next generation to be strong, knowledge-based learners,” said Driscoll.

Students attended a series of panel experts, worked on developing prototypes of eco-friendly beds, honed skills in robotics programming, and participated in a national challenge to design the next generation of wearable technology.

STEM Week is a statewide effort to get students to see themselves in STEM opportunities, and Wednesday’s event helped show students that they can play a role in shaping the future of our state.
