DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A 33-year-old West Columbia man died Tuesday afternoon following a crash along I-95.

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Dorchester County deputies responded to the crash site near mile marker 77, about a mile north of St. George, around 2:50 p.m.

Officials said a pickup truck ran off the right side of the interstate, hit a cable barrier, and then collided with several trees.

Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers said the driver, Dustin Whaley, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4 p.m. He will undergo an autopsy at the Medical University of South Carolina on Friday.

Whaley was the only occupant in the pickup truck.
