ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Public Schools is asking the community for input on how it should direct funding next school year. School officials held their second listening session on Thursday where parents and teachers expressed concerns about mental health, instructional material, and safety. “We feel like at least at some of our schools, our curriculum is not complete. We might get part of the curriculum but therefore some of the teachers with some of the money that’s allocated towards their classrooms will use it to complete a curriculum but others won’t so then the kids aren’t all getting the same instruction, ” said a speaker at the meeting.

The $2.1 billion budget is allocated each year for things like food services, athletics, transportation, and instructional materials. The money comes from state and federal funding. Each school receives its own unique sum depending on enrollment and student needs.

APS said schools will get a first look at the proposed budget by February. it will be approved by the board of education in May. There will be another session on Monday at 5 p.m. at Jimmy Carter Middle School.
