SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An agreement between the Springfield Police and Springfield School Committee allowing access to live cameras in the schools is set to expire in January.
The memorandum of understanding allows police to utilize cameras that are already in the schools. The real-time access lets police see what’s happening in the event of an emergency and respond quickly and effectively.
However, some think that this access could negatively impact students who are concerned that they are being under constant surveillance. Police say they only use the cameras in emergencies.
