FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCBD) – Visitors to one of Charleston’s famous beaches will soon have a new option to explore while they are on the island.

The Folly Beach Historical Society broke ground Thursday on the Folly Beach History Museum at 55 Center Street.

Regina Anderson, a historical society board member, explained how the history museum came to be.

“There were lots of ideas about how to preserve Folly’s history, and finally, one stuck. We figured out how we could expand our community center, and we’ll have rotating exhibits, listening stations, and artifacts,” Anderson said.

Anderson added that locals and visitors alike are encouraged to share their Folly memories with society to help with exhibit creation.

Organizers say the museum is set to preserve the history, culture, and heritage of Folly and its community.
