Dr. Nancy Boykin, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer for HCA Retreat Doctors’ Hospital, said all of the vendors at the event were about mind, health and bettering the self.

“I think there’s so much stigmatism associated with mental health, and we really wanted to look at processes that we can put into place to knock down the stereotypes and help bring these resources to our community, because they’re suffering,” Dr. Boykin said.

Partners of the event included HCA Virginia healthcare professionals, as well as community leaders from HCA Virginia’s Black Colleague Network and WHOA Behavioral Health.

The event also had music, food and opportunities to get active by participating in yoga, line dancing and hip-hop aerobics.
