RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Officials with the Richmond Department of Public Utilities hope to provide residents with clarity regarding the traffic mayhem along Forest Hill Avenue.

A virtual public meeting — hosted by officials — will be held Monday evening with the goal of providing a clearer understanding of the city’s Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project.

According to the department, emergency work to replace failed sewer lines along Forest Hill Avenue between Joe Brooks Boulevard and Hathaway Broad began in April.

It was during that time frame when officials first learned sewer lines had been rapidly deteriorating to the point where leaks and collapses had begun.

Permanent work then followed and began May 20 and is currently set to continue through the end of the year.

“We still have to pay taxes and we have to pay rent to the building,” said Renee Gusti, co-owner of Hair Benders. “But if our businesses have slowed down enough that we don’t have it, I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
