A 24-year-old motorcyclist died Friday afternoon after he lost control of his speeding bike and crashed off a road into a drainage ditch in Ramona, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The man was riding his 2015 Triumph motorcycle south on Third Street north of G Street around 2:30 p.m. when he lost control of the bike, which overturned, said CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber. He was ejected from the motorcycle and he and the bike slid off the east side of the road into a rock and concrete ditch.

The injured man, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to a hospital but he died from his injuries, Grieshaber said.

Investigators are trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, Grieshaber said.
