“This roundtable discussion was really to get the information out to the employers. To make sure that they know what services we do provide and to help them in the workforce shortage, that we’re experiencing right now,” said Amy Arenz, Workforce Center Manager for North Dakota Job Service.

MANDAN, N.D. (KXNET) — The North Dakota Department of Commerce said that the state needs additional workers to fill tens of thousands of jobs still available, which was one of several workforce issues discussed at the Mandan Business Roundtable on Monday, June 17.

Although North Dakota’s unemployment rate continues to be the lowest in the nation at 2%, a labor shortage continues to exist across the state.

“This roundtable discussion was really to get the information out to the employers. To make sure that they know what services we do provide and to help them in the workforce shortage, that we’re experiencing right now,” said Amy Arenz, Workforce Center Manager for North Dakota Job Service.

Several employers came to the Morton Mandan Public Library to talk about the daily challenges they face in finding qualified candidates to work for them and Arenz says that’s where North Dakota Job Service can help.

“We don’t charge for our services. You’re going to have a person you can actually reach, so if you have a problem or issue, you can call us and we will help you get your job posted,” explained Arenz.

“I think it’s important to note that Job Service is here for the employer as well as the job seekers,” noted Amy Berger, who is the Director of Human Resources for the City of Mandan. She said that employers can use Job Service’s ND Workforce Connection website to post jobs as well as seek the qualified candidates they are looking for.

“It’s very user-friendly, especially if you have a reoccurring job. You’re able to get real-time updates, analytics on the views you received, and the clicks and applies,” said Berger.

Although employers may be using other job search engines to find employees, she highly encouraged local businesses to consider adding the free services that Job Service offers to help them broaden their search options.

Berger added that North Dakota Job Service also offers several career fairs throughout the year to help them recruit job candidates who attend them.

For more information on these events and the various programs Job Service offers you can visit their website.
