CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Election polling sites will be open throughout the day as Tuesday, June 18, marks Virginia Primary Day.

There will be a number of congressional races in the Republican and Democratic primaries today — with the head-to-head between incumbent Bob Good and challenger John McGuire receiving particular attention.

The Republican candidacy for a U.S. Senate seat is also up for grabs, however, there will be no Democratic race because Sen. Tim Kaine is running unopposed.

What do I need to vote?

When heading to the polls voters will need to bring an acceptable form of identification including a state-issued driver’s license, I.D., U.S. Military I.D. or a valid U.S. passport.

A list of acceptable forms of identification per the Virginia Department of Elections can be found here.

For anyone who forgets their I.D. upon heading to the polls, an ID confirmation statement will be given to sign to affirm his or her identity. Should someone choose not to sign the statement, he or she will have to cast a provisional ballot.

Where do I head to vote?

When voting on Election Day voters will need to head to their respective precinct location. This can be found on the Virginia Department of Election’s website via the “Polling Place Lookup section.”

This is important as some precinct sites are new or have relocated. Some locations now hold more than one precinct as well.

What if I haven’t registered?

Voters who have yet to register may do so on Election Day as Virginia offers same-day registration.

Those seeking to do so must head to their assigned polling location.

Virginia does not have party registration which means, when registering, one does not have to register with a party affiliation.

Voters may vote in either primary on Tuesday but not both.

Polls close at 7 p.m., however, if a voter is in line at 7 p.m., election officials say they may still cast their ballot.
