NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — With over 43,000 votes in her favor, Julie Fedorchak continues her campaign for Congress in North Dakota.

But her campaign is taking legal action against what they say are some phony messages that were shared on primary election day.

Fedorchak’s campaign hired an attorney to file a complaint with the U.S. attorney, the federal election commission as well as the FCC.

Attorney Shane Goettle says several voters received a text message on Tuesday morning claiming that Fedorchak had dropped out of the race.

The message had cited news organizations in North Dakota also supposedly running the headline.

While no person or group is named in the complaint, the matter is being looked at for possible election interference.

“Other than that we did some preliminary work, to see if we could determine who owned the phone numbers, and what we found was a variety of possibilities on that, entities that once maybe owned them were now defunct or sales may have occurred, so all we can do is provide some preliminary homework to the appropriate federal agencies,” Goettle said.

Goettle says the image in the message was taken from a story in which Fedorchak had previously withdrawn from seeking the party endorsement at the state GOP convention in April.
