CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A new Fire Station 8 has opened in the Matoaca area of Chesterfield County this month, and firefighters there have already began running calls.

According to Chesterfield Fire & EMS, eight firefighters will be at the new station for each shift at the station, which houses an engine, a ladder truck, a medic unit and a brush truck.

The station replaced the old facility that stood for 60 years on Pickett Road. In the new location, at 6612 Hickory Road, the firefighters hope to cover 24% more territory and respond to fires faster.
