PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — The City of Petersburg is opening its Comfort Station for the summer, providing a safe, cool place to rest for those in need.

The Comfort Station, located in the Petersburg Transit Station at 100 W. Washington St., is officially open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, as of June 19.

According to a press release from the City, those who visit the comfort station can rest, cool off and drink some cold water.

The Comfort Station is accessible through the doors on Washington Street and the Operations side, while the Union Street entrance is closed. Additionally, residents can take a bus to and from the Comfort Center, allowing them to avoid walking that full distance in the heat.

“In addition, the City urges residents to look out for their neighbors, particularly the elderly and those with health conditions, during periods of extreme heat,” the release reads, advising that residents call 911 in any case of a heat-related emergency.
