RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Looking to start summer on the right foot? The Cap Trail Summer Challenge, which encourages walkers, runners and cyclists to take the Capital Trail over the summer, runs through Sept. 9.

Participants can choose from one of three mileage goals, select their activity and compete for prizes.

According to the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation, distances include all 51.7 miles of the trail, completing “There and Back Again,” which spans 103.4 miles, or the 465.3-mile “Birthday Challenge” that celebrates nine years since the trail’s completion.

Participants can achieve goals all at once or in sections, with the only requirement being that participants pass all mile markers along the trail. Additional mileage can be logged on the trail or explored somewhere new.

Registration for the challenge includes an end-of-summer party on Sept. 14 with an award ceremony. Registration is $25 before a $5 price increase on July 9, according to organizers. Proceeds support the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation.

Anyone looking to register can visit the challenge’s webpage.
