DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — NHRA legend John Force was transported to the hospital on Sunday after his car exploded and crashed during the PlayNHRA Virginia Nationals.
According to an official Facebook post by the NHRA, during the first round of Funny Car eliminations at the PlayNHRA Virginia Nationals on Sunday, June 23 at Virginia Motorsports Park, racer John Force’s Funny Car suffered an engine explosion.
The car’s engine exploded at the finish line. The car then crossed the centerline, striking both guard walls before coming to a stop.

According to the NHRA, Force was alert and examined onsite by the NHRA Medical Team before he was transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation.
