PHILIPSBURG:— Considering the recent escalation in gun violence, the Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) has intensified its efforts to enhance public safety and curb criminal activities. On Saturday, June 22, 2024, a series of targeted operations were conducted in the Cole Bay and Simpson Bay areas, specifically along Union Road, Airport Road, and Welfare Road.
During these operations, a total of 39 vehicles were stopped and inspected. As a result, eight fines were issued for various traffic violations. Additionally, several drivers received warnings regarding the illegal use of tinted windows on their vehicles. Officers also confiscated two scooters due to non-compliance with traffic regulations and the absence of required documentation.
These measures are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at addressing the ongoing trend of criminal activities and improving the overall sense of security within the community. The KPSM remains committed to conducting similar operations regularly to uphold law and order throughout the island.
Nevertheless, the police cannot achieve these objectives in isolation. The KPSM earnestly requests the support and cooperation of the public. Vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activities are crucial components of this collective effort.
