NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – You can get a better understanding of how a police department works and undergo hands-on training through the North Charleston Police Department’s upcoming Police Citizens Academy.
The eight-week series gives residents an inside look at how the police force operates and their role in keeping neighborhoods safe.
“A major goal of the academy is to increase understanding between community members and the North Charleston Police Department, and to further enhance the strong relationship that already exists,” the agency said.
The hands-on training for citizens will get hands-on training taught by department instructors.
Classes begin on October 7 and are held every Tuesday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., through December 4.
Oct 7 – Introduction to Policing and Community Relations
Oct 14 – De-escalation Response to Resistance
Oct 21 – Less Lethal and Traffic Enforcement
Oct 28 – Firearms, Building Clearing, and SWAT
Nov 4 – Tactical Medicine and Crime Scene
Nov 11 – Emergency Vehicle Operations and Felony Traffic Stops
Nov 18 – Reality-based Training
Dec 4 – Graduation
