If you’re interested in learning about wines, a local wine expert will be offering four classes at Holyoke Community College (HCC).

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – If you’re interested in learning about wines, a local wine expert will be offering four classes at Holyoke Community College (HCC).

Ken Ross, a wine writer from Ware, will be leading the classes. The non-credit classes will focus on several wine-making regions: California, Chile and Argentina, Spain, and Italy. Students will learn the differences between red, white, and sparkling wines, affordable and great-tasting wines, as well as what makes each region’s wines distinct.

The classes are as follows:

Sept. 17, California Wines: Taste great wines from California that cost less than $25 a bottle – red, white and sparkling wines from Napa, Sonoma, and other lesser-known wine regions in California, and learn more about each wine region.

Oct. 18, Wines from Argentina and Chile: Discover South America’s two best wine-growing countries. Try Malbecs from Argentina, Cabernet Sauvignons from Chile and learn more about other outstanding, affordable wines from both countries.

Nov. 12, Spanish Wines: Spain produces some of the best, affordable wines in the world. This class will explore some of the best red, white and sparkling wines from Spain as well as provide information about Spain’s best-known wine-growing regions, including Rioja and Ribera del Duero

Dec. 10, Italian Red: Italy has long been one of the most popular wine-making countries. Learn about Italy’s top wine-growing regions, including Tuscany and Piedmont. This class will focus on affordable Italian wines and include a variety of red, white and sparkling wines from throughout the country.

The cost is $59 per class, which includes the cost of the wines and snacks. To learn more and to register, go to the HCC website.
